RESIDENT MUSIC COLLECTIVE in Humboldt Forum
The Humboldt Forum’s previous guises have always been associated with music: hymns in the medieval monastery; baroque concerts in the Berlin Palace; military marches in imperial times; and socialist songs in the Palace of the Republic. What kind of music would be a good fit for today’s Humboldt Forum: a new meeting point for different cultures and people, objects, and discourses? This is where the Resident Music Collective comes in. Several times a year, musicians from local communities come together to improvise and make music on instruments from their respective traditions: be it a kamanche from Iran, a balafon from West Africa, a cuatro from Venezuela, a frame drum from Syria, or the world’s first ‘contact-free’ instrument, the theremin. How do these instruments sound together in concert? Come and hear for yourselves, live at the Humboldt Forum.
BAYNATNA – THE ARABIC LIBRARY IN BERLIN
Baynatna – The Arabic language library of Berlin
Berlin’s first Arabic library enriches the cultural landscape of the German capital with its events in the Arabic, German and English language and the digital art and culture magazine FANN. In this creative alliance, spaces of encounter, communication, and inspiration are created for artists, cultural workers and scientists.
Whether or not music is a “universal language” is a question that has been debated throughout history. One might say this phrase has been touted so often, it has become a cliché. However, one can not deny the fact that music has came before semantic language as a form or even “language” of communication. Music communicates on levels, of which semantic language can not. It is an essential part of what all people share. Throughout “We Belong TO MUSIC”, music will be reintroduced as an alternative “language”, way of communication in modern times.
PULSAR COLLECTIVE
Carpets of sound stretch to the horizon. The four multi-instrumentalists of the Pulsar Collective stand for grandiose loop loops and energetic live performances. With percussions, synthesizers, drum machines, guitar, voice, and bamboo saxophone, they move effortlessly between psychedelic, electro, indie vibes, wave, and a touch of world music. A fantastic sound experience under the starry skies of Berlin.
